Over the last couple of years the workplace has changed dramatically. More people are telecommuting, meeting are being held online, and the level of smartphone, tablet and laptop use has increased. The result is something called “tech neck”. Minimally people are experiencing mild discomfort but many others are experiencing more serious issues like cervical disc degeneration and nerve compression. What can be done to reduce neck pain?
The first thing most people should do to reduce neck pain at work is to make sure their workstation is set up properly. Please refer to our article “Set up the ideal workstation at home“.
The next step is taking regular stretch breaks can also help reduce pain and discomfort. These stretches include, chin tucks and upper trapezius stretch.
One other thing to consider is your sleeping postures. Avoid stomach sleeping as it puts increased stress on your neck. Make sure your pillow encourages good cervical spinal alignment for your preferred sleeping position, whether it is back or side lying.
